New bins keep three-quarters of shire’s waste out of landfill
Surf Coast Shire council recently implemented a new waste system.
this new system is cutting down on rubbish sent to landfill by a whopping 74%!
The green bin for food organics and green organics (FOGO) collection has led to an increase in composted waste, over 30% up from when it was just garden waste.
The purple glass bins have been instrumental in reducing the need for quarried sand, as the glass waste is used to create a sand substitute, reducing land destruction and carbon emissions.
