What to see and do in Bellbrae
Despite Kithbrooke Park’s proximity to Bellbrae, many still see it as just a place to pass through on the way to somewhere else… but there are many beautiful spots to visit!
The Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie
A tasty destination for chocoholics and those with a sweet tooth, the GOR Chocolaterie might be Bellbrae’s worst kept secret! Nestled right off the Great Ocean Road on the way to Anglesea, it’s less than a 15 minute drive from Kithbrooke Park.
The Chocolaterie offers a wide selection of chocolatey delights to sit and enjoy or purchase and take home (if they make it that far!). You can watch the chocolatiers at work through the glass screen into the factory, or if you’d like a more hands-on experience, book yourself into a Rocky Road Creation Class or a Chocolate Discovery session to craft your own chocolate creations! Those wishing for a fancier afternoon may opt for the High Tea, which can be enjoyed in the spacious indoor cafe or out in the fresh air of the outdoor dining area. For those with a not-so-sweet tooth, there are also a range of non-chocolate treats and savoury meals.
Walking Trails & Wildlife Spotting
Once you’re full of chocolate (or perhaps before) you can explore the many walking trails hidden among the beautiful bushland around the region. Keep your eyes peeled, as Bellbrae is a known hotspot for wildlife sightings, including the elusive echidna. Kangaroos and birds will often appear among the trees, and you’re likely to see a rider and a horse trotting along the trails too.
Bellbrae Estate Winery
Hidden in plain view, the Bellbrae Estate Winery welcomes you to its family owned vineyard. The only vineyard on the Great Ocean Road, it’s a gorgeous place to sit back, relax and sample some delicious wine while taking in the rolling hills and scenic outlook. They offer a large selection of woodfired pizzas and cheese boards, all paired perfectly with the boutique wines made right on site.
It’s also a popular spot for regular live music and local events, including the annual Toast to the Coast event.
Great Ocean Road Nursery
A local favourite, the Great Ocean Road Nursery offers a great range of plants, gardening supplies, homewares, and gifts. There’s also a little cafe for tasty sweet and savoury delights, and delicious ice cream.
So stock up on some tasty treats, take bottle (or two) of wine home with you, and perhaps drive past one of the many lookouts to watch the sun set over the ocean, before making the short trip back to Kithbrooke after your day out in Bellbrae!
