Introducing the Kithbrooke Park Yacht Club

With a large lake, waterway, and a launching area right outside their front doors, an ingenious group of our homeowners saw an opportunity... sailing remote-controlled yachts!

Bill White, self-appointed Commodore of the Kithbrooke Yacht Club, says “You don’t have to be on the beach to sail a yacht”.

Whilst playing outdoor bowls on a windy day, Bill looked across the waterway and had the idea of sailing remote-controlled yachts. After floating the idea, he quickly had seven participants.

To join the fun, participants purchased their own remote-controlled yachts, which are over half a metre long and sail at a speed of 5 knots.

Now with twenty-two participating members, the sailing group meet each week for a regatta and some friendly racing. Most of the participants have never actually sailed but enjoy joining in the fun.

According to Bill, “The activity is a good break where we can get outdoors, enjoy the day, get some fresh air and social distance all at the same time.”

The sailing group meet every Thursday and are looking forward to the warmer months when more people will get on board. The event now includes handicap and match racing and is likely to include twilight events in the Summer.
