Here at Kithbrooke, we love learning, and a large part of that is sharing knowledge! Whether you’re learning new things on the internet, from your family, or over a cup of coffee in our wonderful library, here are some things you might not know...
Out of over 200 nations in the world, only 7 have set their sights on the moon in close range and only three have touched down on the dusty, cratered surface. America, of course, in 1969, then Russia and China. All three nations have made multiple attempts to get man on the moon, with varying degrees of success.
Of the other four nations to orbit the moon, India, Japan, and the USSR can claim successful missions, their crafts completing their tasks and their astronauts returning to earth. Israel, sadly, can only look back on failures, but the race for space is never ending, though most nations set their sights further than the moon. We’ve landed rovers on mars, and we’ve taken high resolution images of all the planets in our solar system, even beloved Pluto.
For facts more close to home, we explore our own Earth, with many missions deep into the depths of the ocean, exploring the hidden world. With thousands of beaches just lining Australia, one can only wonder how much of the ocean we have yet to explore. We know that giant squid, dumbo octopi, and even Yeti crabs roam the deepest, darkest parts of the water.
Ocean covers over 70% of our beautiful earth, and yet we’ve explored only 5% of that. Vampire squid, Goblin sharks, and Fangtooth fish may be some of the spookier names, while the ever loved blobfish is definitely one of the creepiest looking, at least when it’s out of the water! The pressure at those depths is more than enough to require completely different anatomy to anything you’d find on land!
